Dear Fellow Residents:
There is a crucial Toms River Board of Education meeting scheduled for June 30, 2021 at 6 pm at Toms River High School South. Please attend to raise any concerns you may have regarding the selection process for the new Superintendent. This decision will impact the future of the education of the children of Toms River. The rise or fall of our school system well may turn on the choice of Superintendent.
As reported in a recent news article:
“We are required to appoint a superintendent by July 1 or we can’t operate,” said board Vice President Anna Polozzo, who heads the superintendent search committee. “Somebody has to either do the job or we shut down.” Interim Superintendent Thomas Gialanella will leave Toms River Regional on June 30.
The superintendent search has been mired in controversy since April, when Eagan accused township Councilman Daniel Rodrick of urging her to pressure another board member to change their vote for the next school leader. https://www.app.com/story/news/education/in-our-schools/2021/06/21/toms-river-regional-board-faces-time-crunch-picking-new-superintendent/7733715002/
At the last Board of Education Meeting, 4 votes were made in support of Assistant Superintendent Ricotta to be the next superintendent. This was rejected by Contessa, Palmieri and Kidney. All 3 happened to use Rodrick’s services in their Board of Education campaigns. Rodrick admitted to running Kidney’s campaign in the attached audio clip. All 3 voted for the out of towner James Altobello, an administrator in Hamilton Township Schools since February 2019. Prior to that he was a School Administrator in Middletown for 10 years. Of note, Rodrick is a teacher in Middletown.
We all have busy lives but this meeting is important to attend. The Toms River students and education staff deserve better.
Please support them in this critical time.
